Confessions of a Bride-To-Be #2

Beware, this is a sorta ranting post.

We had dinner with some friends on Sat night and were asked about our wedding preparations.

Friend: "So have you chosen your gown?"
Me: "Nope, will only start the design process in Sept."
Friend: "How about your photo shoot? When is it?"
Me: "It's in early August."
Friend: "Hmmm. Doesn't that mean that you won't get to wear your gown for your photoshoot?"
Me: "Yah, but that's fine with me because we are doing a casual shoot."
Friend (frown on her face) : "But don't you want to take photos in your wedding gown?"
Me: "No not really. I'd have some shots of me in my gown on the actual wedding day anyway."
(awkward silence)
Friend: "Ok, so when will your new place be ready?"
Me: "Somewhere early next year."
Friend: "Oh that means around your wedding. Are you going to stay with him, before the house is ready?"
Me: "No lar, we'll stay separately first."
Friend (surprised look): "Hmmm ok. But don't you want to stay together?"
Me: "I think it makes more sense to stay at our individual homes, especially when it comes to commuting to work."
Friend (about to say more, but was gently told by her husband to not say more).

In another conversation with colleagues last week,

Colleague: "So where are you holding your wedding?"
Me: " in Sentosa."
Colleague: "Oh, which hotel is that at?"
Me: "It's a restaurant."
Colleague: "How many people are you planning to invite?"
Me: "About 100 guests?"
Colleague: "Wah you can fit everyone?"
Me: "Yah it'll be a small cosy dinner with close family and friends."
Colleague (deep frown on face): "Hmmmm ok."

From the above, I guess you can say that the fiance and I are not your typical couple. We knew from the very start that we wanted a small affair so we could have the chance to mingle with our guests. We also decided against studio wedding shots and taking photos in our suit and gown because we wanted the photos to capture us being natural and ourselves. We are also perfectly fine with staying apart because it's only for a few months at most.

I guess my point here is, everyone has different views and ways of doing things. You can't expect the whole world to think like you. I don't ask for people to understand our rationale for our choices, but i would appreciate for others to respect our decisions.

Today I'm wearing...

I never realised Vogue.com has a section called "Today I'm Wearing..." where they invite a guest to share photos of their daily wardrobe for a month.

Love Olivia Palermo's wardrobe! I never knew who she was until i saw this site and can you believe she's only 24 this year?!

And do check out IT girl, Alexa Chung's contribution for the month of February too :)

Confessions of a Bride-To-Be #1

I was contemplating naming this post 'Confessions of a Bridezilla' but decided against it, lest it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy :P

Been wanting to blog about our preparations for the big day next January, but there's really not much to update so far. Thanks to my kiasuness propensity for planning in advance, we settled the major details earlier this year. Don't really have much to do till the later part of the year.

So far, we have confirmed our reception venue, drafted a guest list, booked our pre and AD photographer, confirmed the bridal studio and settled my bridesmaid dresses.

I can't wait for our pre-wedding, also known as engagement shoot by the Westerners in August!

Outré Singapore

I stumbled upon a local version of The Sartorialist, called Outré Singapore. Though i still prefer the fashion featured in Sartorialist (and the foreign backdrops!), it's still pretty interesting to see how the photographer has captured street style in our local context.

Fashion Du Jour

One of my many idiosyncrasies is the need to dress up when i'm on holiday. I attest it to wanting to look nice in holiday photos and having the chance to experiment with my dressing in ways that i never dare in Singapore (i'm a very safe dresser).

With the Down Under trip coming up in a week's time, i've been looking at The Sartorialist for some fashion inspiration.

Here are some looks that i like.

PS - A good photographer really makes a difference. His photos are amazing! I could look at the site all day and not get bored.

What's your therapy?

Everyone has their own way of de-stressing. Some people binge eat, some turn to sports. Me? If i had more time, i'd definitely go for Yoga every day. I first tried it last August and never looked back. Enjoy the peace and tranquility that goes through my mind as i concentrate on balancing, keeping my spine straight with every pose.

But with the overwhelming workload recently, i've been finding it hard to go for my usual evening lessons. So, i've had to resort to my other therapy - shopping (if there's any bad habit i inherited from my Mom, it'd be my shopaholic habits). With so many blogshops out there these days, it's impossible not to find something you like.

Here are some of the sites i frequent (don't have the time to link them, but just do a google and u should be able to get to them!) :)

Slowly but surely

June 2009

May 2010

I will never forget the overnight queuing we had to endure last April when Sim Lian announced the walk-in-selection. It was awful. Imagine sitting on hard, plastic chairs for more than a day! And we weren't allowed to leave. Anyone who left was assumed to have given up his/her queue number. Roll calls were done to prevent any unfairness (i.e. some people going home to sleep and coming back the next day).

When morning finally came, there was more waiting, this time in the humid heat, for our turn to select our unit. We waited a total of 19 hours, without sleep, before signing our lives away on the 2nd evening. But it sure was worth it. Looking back, i really have to thank my parents for driving all the way down to the East on that Fri evening to help us to 'chope' a queue number. And of course, his parents, for helping us to buy lunch and taking our place, as we slipped away to wash up at his place on the 2nd day.

As of our last site visit, all floors for the blocks are up. Water tanks are up for most blocks and they are starting work on the multi storey carpark and the road drainages. The window and balcony grilles for our unit are also up. Fingers crossed we will be able to collect our keys by Jan next year? :)

Bangkok, will you smile again?

It saddens me to read about the Bangkok protests in the newspapers every day. Bloodshed and chaos is not what we are used to associating the city with. Hope the situation settles soon.

Wedding Eye Candy: (500) Days of Summer Wedding Inspiration

Source - Green Wedding Shoes

I chanced upon this wedding inspiration board a while back and absolutely love the vintage wardrobe, the chalk designs (in the movie, the actor has a chalkboard in his home) and elements of architecture. If i could carry off a vintage look, i would certainly consider this for our nuptials in 8 months' time :)

Btw, go catch the movie on DVD if you haven't, i love how it's such a non typical romantic comedy. Heart the soundtrack too!

Cats and Dogs

One of the things we are really looking forward to, when the new home is ready, is keeping a dog (or two if we can cope).

Recently, the fiance suggested we could keep a cat too.

Uh, thanks to the media influences growing up, i'm not sure if dogs and cats can get along in the same household.

I wonder if anyone knows someone who has harmoniously kept a dog and a cat under the same roof?

Friends or Foes?

The Amazing Race

The fiance and i had a TAR Season 16 marathon over Youtube in the past two weeks. We didn't realise how much we missed watching the show (i think the last time we watched it was season 8 or 9?) till we caught it again.

Tonight's the season finale and for those of you who haven't been following the series, three teams are in the running for a million dollars.

Jet and Cord - The Cowboys

These cowboys are really good! They came from last to first in one leg and i think they came in first at least 3-4 times. I'm still amazed that Jet's cowboy hat didn't even threaten to fall off when he bungee jumped in Hamburg, Germany.

Jordan and Dan - The Brothers

They aren't the strongest team but they've made it into the top 3. Love Jordan's bitchiness btw :P

Brent and Caite - The Models

Am surprised that the goodlookers have made it this far. Although Caite is proving her critics wrong, i don't think the poor gir will ever be able to get disassociated from that booboo comment she made. Go search Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2007 on Youtube and you'll know what i mean.

Although the cowboys probably deserve to win, I'm rooting for Jordan and Daniel because they aren't your unconventional alpha male winners. For the amount of tears that Jordan has shed, i really think he wants to win this bad.

P/S If anyone knows who won, please please PLEASE don't tell me!

When everything's in slow mo

Today's one of those days where time just seems to be passing.by.so.slowly.

3 weeks' plus more to our road trip Down Under!

Very much looking forward to every single leg of the trip - the vineyards at Yarra Valley, watching the penguin parade at Phillip Island, strolling along the beach sidewalks at St Kilda, driving along the scenic GOR with the wind in our hair, hot springs at Mornington Peninsula, horse riding and bushwalking at the Grampians and exploring hole in the wall shops at Melbourne city.

A Moment In Time

I love photos.

A photo captures a moment in time. An event. A memory. Fleeting emotions, frozen in time with the click of a camera.

A friend uploaded some old photos from our Work and Travel trip on Facebook. I chanced upon this again. It is one of my favourite photos because it was spontaneous. We were having a picnic a Lake Lucerne and after our bbq, were fooling around with the camera. We each struck our unique pose within seconds. I will never forget the fun we had and how happy we were when we took this shot.

Certainly brings back wonderful memories of my time in the US of A.

Nobody said it was easy. It's such a shame for us to part.

Hello, World

Ok i do not know how to import my Wordpress entries here. Seems like i've got to do it manually :S
