Just thought i'd also share some tips based on my experience :)
Before you visit a bridal studio...
1) Do some research
It helps if you've been browsing at magazines/websites and can let the designer know what fabric/cut(s) you prefer so he/she can bring out the right gowns for you to try.
2) Make an appointment
Many of the studios don't accept walk-ins so it's good to call them beforehand. Saturdays also tend to be crowded so you will need to book at least 2-3 weeks in advance.
3) Prepare and ask many questions.
Make sure you find out about what the packages entail and if you have any doubts, clarify them. Friends have complained of paying more eventually due to top ups which were not discussed upfront. It's important to find out what the designer/studio can or cannot do, before you sign with them. Talking to the designer as much as you can also gives you a sense of the kind of rapport you have with him/her.
4) Give your fiance a break and not drag him to more than 3 studios in a day.
Based on my experience, the man gets bored after the 2nd studio. Let's face it, weddings are girly by nature and we can't expect our men to embrace tulle, lace, chiffon, satin, as much as we do.
5)If you really want an honest opinion of how you look, bring your best girlfriend.
Even though the fiance dishes out pretty reliable advice on what looks good and doesn't most of the time, i realised his comments tend to be politically correct and limited to "quite nice" and "not bad". Me thinks that if you want the brutal truth, bring your closest girlfriend or even Mom along.
6) Go with an open mind
These people have been in the business for a while, they've seen brides of all shapes and sizes So do hear them out on what they feel will or will not suit you but of course don't forget to stay firm to your likes and dislikes. Don't be compelled to choose a design which you absolutely loathe just because they say it looks good on you.
7) Wear nude underwear
You'll be surprised at how sheer some gowns can be!
8) Last but not least, have fun!
