Confessions of a Bride-To-Be #3 - The Bridal Studio Part 1

Here are my views on the bridal studios we had visited.

Well i can't say much from the Groom-To-Be's point of view because bridal studios tend to offer the same standard MTM suit tailoring for the grooms. :P

1) Margaret Brides
Margaret Brides was the first bridal studio we visited. I had shortlisted MB because they specialise in lace and i adore lace and its vintage feel. I went there with no knowledge of gowns and Margaret, who's the only designer, was very helpful to share on the different cuts and the difference between the French and German laces which she uses. Her French lace gowns are not cheap though so you'd need to be prepared to splurge if you go with her.

2) Silhouette The Atelier
I went to Silhouette at Amoy St with high hopes because i had read so much about their gorgeous gowns. But a small part of me also knew i might be disappointed because my petite physique would most probably not suit their ball gowns, which they are known for. True enough, i was let down. I looked like a little girl trying to play dress up in their ball gowns. And the designer whom i met didn't have much of an opinion, unfortunately.

3) Dang Bridal
I didn't have a chance to speak to Dang at all because Daphne, her assistant would usually front the first meeting. Daphne was really personal and offered lots of advice on what would suit my figure. I tried 3 gowns and was wowed by every piece, even the ball gown which they had. And then i tried their cheongsams and was in love. I would have signed immediately with them if not for the fact that i had wanted to see a few more bridal studios first.

4) Bridal Veil by Michelle Huimin
BV's signature style is duchess satin with swarovski crystal buttons which adorn the back of the gowns. We did not get a chance to talk to the designer Michelle too, but this i had also expected based on the forums. I was impressed by the fact that they offered 6 fittings for the MTM process. However, I felt stiff in their gowns and knew i wouldn't be going with them because i was looking for a soft, flowy, romantic look.

5) Amanda Lee
We had the worst experience here as we were made to wait for half an hour for the designer to be done with his other clients, despite making an appointment. The designer also didn't seem very sincere and did not offer any ideas. Within 10 minutes of trying, we were out of the shop.

6) Olive Suite
Olive Suite was a serendipitous find. We hadn't made an appointment, but stumbled upon it when we were at Delfi Orchard to visit Bridal Veil and Amanda Lee. Oh how i loved the gowns! They were each unique, soft and romantic. Jessica, the designer was very sweet too. OS doesn't offer packages though so i struck them off my list.

7) Kai Bridal Couture
I loved Kai's ethereal looking gowns. When i told him that i was having a garden solemnisation, he got all excited and described his vision - how i'd look and how he didn't want to give me a gown which would overwhelm me. It was easy to be sold and I would have gone with him if his prices weren't so steep.

By the time we were done with the 7 places over a span of 2 months, i was exhausted and just wanted to make a decision. Thankfully, I didn't have to mull very long because the final choice was obvious. Based on affordability, dress designs and personalised service, we decided to go with Dang Bridal. And seeing Lin's photos and reading about her experience with Dang on her blog (thanks again for sharing, if you're reading this!) just reaffirms that we've made the right choice :)
